Education - Selected Internet Resources: Resources for Distance Education American Center for the Study of Distance Education The American Center for the Study of Distance Education (ACSDE) promotes distance education research, study, scholarship, and teaching and serves as a clearinghouse for the dissemination of knowledge about distance education. The Commonwealth of Learning (COL), based in Vancouver, Canada, is the only intergovernmental organisation solely concerned with the promotion and development of distance education and open learning. COL is helping to increase the capacities of developing nations to meet the demands for improved access to quality education and training. Distance Education Clearinghouse The Distance Education Clearinghouse allows users easy access to a wide range of information about distance education. This comprehensive and widely recognized web site brings together distance education information and resources from Wisconsin, national and international sources. New information and resources are being added to the Distance Education Clearinghouse on a continuing basis. This collection of distance education and mediated instruction development resources is intended for Indiana higher education staff, faculty, and administrators and others with professional interests in distance learning. International Telementor Center The International Telementor Center is a program at Center for Science, Mathematics & Technology Education at the Colorado State University (CSMATE) that facilitates electronic mentoring relationships between professional adults and students worldwide. LiteracyLink is a joint initiative begun in July 1996 in response to the growing nationwide demand for basic skills training. Funded by a five-year $15 million grant from the US Department of Education Star Schools program, LiteracyLink is creating an integrated instructional system of video and online computer technology which will help adult students advance their GED and workplace skills. TEAMS Distance Learning brings exemplary learning opportunities to K-8 students, teachers, and parents across the United States through nationally televised satellite broadcasts and the Internet. Learners use instructional technologies to access a combination of the best features of time-dependent (synchronous) video-based instruction along with time-independent (asynchronous) computer access to multimedia and the Internet. The World Lecture Hall (WLH) contains links to pages created by faculty worldwide who are using the Web to deliver class materials. The site contains hundreds of courses listed by category, and includes course syllabi, assignments, lecture notes, exams, class calendared, and multimedia textbooks.
