I am pleased to present the Yale University Library strategic plan. We, the Library's
staff, have been working together for nearly two years to determine the direction
of Yale University Library over the next five years. The main Strategic Planning
phase of our work has reached the stage where we can publish our plans. Yale University
cherishes its great Library and values its services highly. Fulfilling our plans
and living up to the high expectations of our users will be a continuing challenge.
Yale's educational mission is dynamic and constantly developing. The undergraduate
curriculum is undergoing major revision, and that will change the ways in which
the Library works with students and professors to support teaching and learning.
New areas of research are constantly opening up, and those too place new demands
on our collections and on the librarians who develop them. Planning will always
be a work in progress. By publishing our plans now, we invite all those who support
the Yale University Library to let us know how we are doing and work with us to
attain our goals.
