I am pleased to present the Yale University Library strategic plan, a work in
progress that has involved contributions from all staff, and from many advisers
in the University, at different times. Yale University cherishes its great Library
and values its services highly. Fulfilling our plans and living up to the high
expectations of our users will be a continuing challenge. Yale's educational mission
is dynamic and constantly developing. New areas of research are constantly opening
up, and those too place new demands on our collections and on the librarians who
develop them. Planning will always be a work in progress. The documents here include
the fruits of a first planning exercise that was completed in 2003, and an updated
plan produced in July 2009. We invite all those who support the Yale University
Library to let us know how we are doing and work with us to attain our goals.
