“I was born in Cluj [Kolozsvar] in the province called Transylvania
in Romania. I was born on February 6, 1931. My family lived in Cluj and
under the Romanian rule it was very nice. My father was in the leather
business. Life was very happy, he made a good living. I had two sisters
and one brother, all older. I had grandparents, five aunts, and three
uncles. Some of them, but not all, lived in my city. My family was very
religious before the war. We went to synagogue. We observed all the holidays.”
