General Announcements:
- Volunteer for minutes: Curtis Orio
- Learning Center Discounts There is a procedure to take advantage of this and it is highly encouraged. Debbie McGraw (Business Office) must be involved in the process to prevent one's dept. from paying the full price.
- Dan Seymour's Campus visit On June 8th Dan Seymour (author of various books on improving quality, productivity, etc.) will visit the entire campus. These campus-wide presentations are open to all. On June 9th he will focus on the library. He will specifically consult with the Service Quality Initiative (SQI) committees organized by Danuta. Dan will also meet with Scott. There will be a briefing at the end of his visit. No questions or comments were raised by the STOD group.
- Visit to the Adaptive Technology Lab (SCSU)--positive feedback was given by those who attended. Erika has a staff member who was inspired by some of the equipment and might purchase the equipment on her own. Some STOD members plan on visiting the lab individually.
- Other-- Does a list of the people who've been trained in the SCML exist? Apparently a list would need to be created from the pre-existing "paper trail". The need for such a list was seconded.
- Sub Committee Reports:
- Operation of SCML/Basic skill sets for library staff (Lynne) The subgroup has set up a schedule for training people on the use of the SCML. The documentation for the projector is finished and in the room. There have been some concerns about security, so the group is going to put tattle tape on the set of keys so they do not leave the building.
- STOD subcommittee on evaluating multimedia software on hold. Karen to join ? subcommittee. Erika to join Implementing Staff Resource Library subcommittee.
- Staff Resource Library--two options were opened to the committee. Option 1, an open reserve collection in CCL. Option 2, shelved in the SML stacks or in the L & B room (ie. a location browsable to the public). This second option could allow the STOD acquisition funds to be given to a selector for the purchasing of material.
Questions and comments raised during the discussion:
- What is our Collection Development Policy?
- This type of material often dates quickly.
- Can't Eli Express items on reserve. [the need to consult with SML Circulation about this and many other topics was raised. The Sub-Committee is scheduled to meet with staff in SML Circ. In May]
- What does the ongoing budget look like for the STOD committee? Answer: will commit to $800-1000 per year.
- Multi-Media Kits-what happens to them?
- Some type of Web access is highly encouraged for the Staff Library
- Question about cataloging. What will the procedures be?
- Question about Acquisitions if Kate gives funding to the selector.
- Question if Social Science Library would order material
- Preservation questions about Book Plates
The CCL option was emphatically perceived as the better option. Discussion on this topic will continue after a joint meeting between the sub-committee and SML Circulation.
- SCML-in consultation with Kate about where to go from here. [Erika will observe Curtis in the Train the Trainer session during August-Thursday afternoon] A question was raised about new equipment.
- Basic Skill Sets thinking is still undecided-to meet with Kate.
Question: what should an Expert User do/be? What's expected? Narrowing down the list of tasks is proving to be quite difficult. Input from Karen Reardon is needed. Checking the Web Site as a source of information was mentioned and encouraged.
Questions abounded relating to Supervisors, availability of training, "jurisdiction" battles over area of responsibility. A universal document can NOT be created to encompass everyone.
Question: What can we do to create a proper learning environment, including all facets of the job, not just Orbis.
- Library Committee reports 'n such:
- WAG-TLC-Click Here lectures during the week of May 8-12. Nelinet workshop co-sponsored by WAG-TLC and STOD on Cascading Style Sheets will take place sometime in July. Also scheduled on June 13th is a TLC sponsored workshop on Server-Side Includes (SSI)
- LMS Migration-SCOPA is sponsoring a meeting with Scott Bennett and Audrey Novak. Much brainstorming took place during a Library Retreat.
- Staff Training and Development (Kate)
- Train The Trainer-positive feedback was given from those who attended.

Curtis Orio
