Yale Library Supervisory Profile and Development Overview
Last year, while developing the library-wide performance appraisal process,
a commitment was made by the Library to develop an appraisal system specifically
for supervisors to be assessed by those reporting to them. Additionally, the
Workplace Survey results indicated a need to develop supervisory effectiveness.
The purpose of the Supervisory Profile and Development Program, therefore, is
to:
· Provide developmental and training opportunities for all supervisors
within the Yale Library System
· Opportunity for giving & receiving feedback
· Improve supervisory capabilities
The goals throughout the Supervisory Profile and Development Program are to:
· Define supervisory effectiveness behavioral characteristics
· Analyze group assessment data to identify key curriculum topics
· Provide training and individual coaching sessions
· Create development and career planning tools
· Establish guidelines for ongoing improvement of supervisory
skills over time
