The Yale University Visual Resources Collection is over eighty years old and is comprised of approximately 320,000 slides (both lantern and 35mm) and 187,000 mounted photographs. The collection was and is formed in response to curricular needs. The collection is part of the library system. Primary patrons are the departments of History of Art, American Studies, and History, and the schools of Art, Architecture, Drama, and Divinity; anyone, however, may use the collection to prepare Yale lectures.

The collection is currently being digitized with over 210,000 images available in the Visual Resources Collection Digital Library. Content is added on a regular basis and an additional 50,000 images will be available by Summer 2008.
