L/N and ISP change
Although the Lexis/Nexis host is still unreachable, it looks like we will
have the problem fixed shortly and I should be able to announce access again.
For those of you really interested in the tech part of the problem read on...
While the WilsonWeb and ProQuest outages were both the result of problems
on the vendors' ends, we were fairly quickly able to determine that other
institutions were able to reach Lexis/Nexis without problems.
Our friendly neighbors at DNO volunteered their help to determine the
problem and poked around at the various intersections, routers, DNS
servers, etc. on the Internet trying to determine where the failure was
occuring.
The source of the problem turned out to be a result of the cutover to the
new ISP. The border router between TCG and ANSnet (which serves
Lexis/Nexis) apparently did not load the new routing tables correctly and
no traffic was going from Yale to ANSnet at all. TCG has been notified,
and we expect things to be fixed shortly.
This problem is bigger than access to Lexis-Nexis, and until the problem is
solved, people may find that other Internet hosts are unreachable.
