Yale Reaccreditation
Every ten years, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges
reviews Yale University as a part of its accreditation functions. Over the
last year, the university has--under President Levin's direction--been
preparing for the NEASC visiting team that will be in New Haven in November
1999. Central to that preparation was the writing of a university-wide
self study that responds to the broad accreditation standards set by NEASC.
The self study is, as one would expect, informative about a broad range of
issues before Yale and higher education more generally. Penelope Laurans,
Associate Dean of Yale College and Assistant to the President, coordinated
the preparation of the self study.
One of the NEASC standards (No. 7) relates to Library and Information
Resources. Dan Updegrove, Director of ITS, and I chaired a talented and
energetic committee that prepared this part of the university's self study.
The self study is available on the Web at:
http://www.yale.edu/accred/
Members of the university community are strongly encouraged to read all or
part of the self-study and provide comment on it (using, if one likes, the
response capabilities provided at the Web site).
