A Friendly Reminder From Your Catalog Management Librarian
This message is intended for Library staff with responsibility for creating
records in Orbis.
Every other week or so, Suzanna Lengyel sends us a message with the
following subject: "Catalog records uploaded from Orbis to RLIN." Shortly
thereafter, I get a message from Suzanna letting me know which of those
records were in fact rejected by RLIN. The records are rejected because the
cataloging status code in the copy holdings record indicates that the
record is an acquisitions record (STATUS = a) as opposed to a catalog
record (STATUS = h).
There is an often-significant number of records that are rejected in every
load. We here in Catalog Management retrieve them one by one and (1) delete
field 927 if the record is an acquisitions record or (2) correct the
cataloging status code and re-set field 927 if the record is a catalog
record.
Please remember the following:
Change the STATUS code to "h" when the item represented by the record is
cataloged.
Add field 927 to records representing cataloged materials only.
Do not add field 927 to records representing materials that are on order or
in process, or to records representing materials that are in a frontlog or
in a backlog.
Finally, make sure that you are not using a macro that is incorrectly
adding field 927.
We in Catalog Management thank you very much for your attention to this
matter!
