Subject: JSTOR: Participation Information for the Upcoming Ecology & Botany
Collection
Dear JSTOR Participant:
We are very pleased to announce final details for the release of the
upcoming Ecology & Botany Collection, JSTOR's third archival collection of
scholarly journals. The Ecology & Botany Collection will be released as a
single group later this Autumn. The collection, totaling 29 journals and
over one million pages, contains some of the most essential journals
published in the environmental sciences. Many publications, such as
American Naturalist and International Journal of Plant Sciences, extend
back into the 19th Century. Ecologists, conservationists and scholars in
related fields will now be able to research journal literature in the
environmental sciences going back more than 130 years.
You may view the complete list of titles in the Ecology & Botany
Collection on our web site at
<http://www.jstor.org/about/ecobot.list.html>.
JSTOR has created this collection in cooperation with the Ecological
Society of America (ESA), a not-for-profit organization whose members are
conducting research, teaching, and working to provide the ecological
knowledge needed to solve environmental problems. We are pleased to have
had the support of the ESA in the creation and production of this
collection. Thanks to funds that have been made available to the ESA from
the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that helped cover production costs, JSTOR
has been able to reduce significantly the Archive Capital Fees for this
collection.
As with other JSTOR collections, institutions will pay two fees to
participate in the Ecology & Botany Collection, an Archive Capital Fee
(ACF) and an Annual Access Fee (AAF). As you may know, the ACF is a one
time only fee designed to help insure that JSTOR has the necessary
resources to meet its archival obligation to migrate data and software
systems as technology evolves. The AAF helps cover the recurring costs of
updating the archive and maintaining access and support services for
participating institutions.
There are six titles common to both the Arts & Sciences I and the Ecology
& Botany Collections. In recognition of these shared titles, the Ecology &
Botany participation fees are reduced for institutions already
participating in Arts & Sciences I.
Participation fees and information for the Ecology & Botany Collection for
U.S. participants are available at the JSTOR web site at
<http://www.jstor.org/about/avail_fees.html>. Participation fees and
information for institutions outside the U.S. are available at
<http://www.jstor.org/about/intl_avail_fees.html>.
We are happy to welcome participants in this new collection. In order to
extend the terms of the license Agreement between JSTOR and your
institution to cover participation in the Ecology & Botany Collection, we
will need to add a Rider to the Agreement. If your institution is ready to
proceed please download and complete two copies of the Collections Rider
available on our web site. U.S. institutions should complete the rider at
<http://www.jstor.org/about/basic.collections.rider.V10.1.00.pdf>.
International institutions should complete the rider at
<http://www.jstor.org/about/intl.collections.rider.IV.10.1.pdf>.
Two signed copies of the Rider should be sent to the appropriate contact
below. We will process the Riders and make arrangements for your
institution to have access to this archive as soon as it is released.
Institutions that complete the Rider in advance will gain full access to
the collection on the day of its release.
U.S. participants may send completed Riders, or requests for further
