REMINDER: WAG Plenary Session
WAG invites you to attend its next
Plenary Session:
Future Visions for Web Developments
April 23, 10:30-noon, SML Lecture Hall
The library becomes a Web Community:
The library has transformed from a physical place and a paper-based
depository into a portal for connecting remotely located populations of
researchers to online information. People with a variety of traditional
scholarly and new popular information needs (i.e. WWW recipes, movie
reviews) are expecting links to information from their own computers with
full text delivery and 24 hour access. The library should take a leading
role in organizing all of this traditional and new information in order
to provide users with the identification of relevant resources and
seamless access.
This session will demonstrate selected web techniques and future
possibilities that we might be implementing.
Speakers:
Karen Reardon: building databases on the web (infrastructure)
Holly Grossetta Nardini: Front Door templates (outreach to populations)
Andy Newman (ITS): portals/customized channels (knowledge management
across databases)
Brian Kupiec: HTML document manipulation (advanced
browsing/reading)
David Stern: SFX:A&I to full-text links -> broadcast technology
-> finding related items (links)
All library staff are invited. Attendance is subject to supervisory
approval.
