RE: Fwd: Urgent: Windows NT/2000/XP Warning and Patch

Please note:

All Library staff and public workstations supported by Web & Workstation Services were patched beginning on Tuesday - we installed the patch automatically through the magic of the Active Directory. The patch will continue to be deployed as vacationing staff turn on their workstations upon their return.

Staff in Medical, Law, Beinecke and Divinity should receive (or have already received) information on the installation of the patch from your local systems staff - they will advise you if you need to do the upgrade yourselves.

You should patch home machines as described below.

RE: Urgent: Windows NT/2000/XP Warning and Patch

A major vulnerability in the Windows Operating system has been announced
that allows an attacker to take complete control of the system. The
attacker could change all passwords, install or disable software, and
delete or modify data. This vulnerability affects all Windows versions
including NT 4.0, but excludes Windows 95/98/ME. Users are strongly
encouraged to apply the patch for their particular Windows version, which
is available at www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/ms03-026.asp

The Department of Homeland Security has issued warnings to all Federal
Agencies about this vulnerability, and we have posted notices to DSP and
Systems support lists at Yale. Please update your office and home PCs as
soon as possible, especially if you connect to the Yale VPN.

Details and updates regarding this patch will be posted to
www.yale.edu/its/status

Please contact your Local support provider for further assistance:

Thank you,
ITS Communications
