license workshop reprise DAY correction
Apologies and a minor correction. The workshop will be on FRIDAY July
16. Thanks to those who caught my error.
--Kimberly Parker
=======================================================
For the last three summers, Ann Okerson and Kimberly Parker have offered a
workshop for Yale librarians on issues and pointers in reviewing electronic
resource license agreements and opening negotiations to modify them if
necessary.
A number of you weren't able to attend the sessions offered before,
and a few more people have joined the library or taken on responsibilities
involving e-resource licenses.
So, back by popular demand, the workshop will be offered again this summer.

Most electronic resources we acquire are accompanied by license agreements
that govern how we may use these resources. As e-resources acquisitions
grow in number, it becomes important for librarians in the collection
development workflow (whether selectors or acquisitions librarians) to be
able to initiate review of these licenses and open negotiations to modify
unacceptable terms.
Library and University policy
(<http://www.library.yale.edu/CDC/public/policies/licensepolicy.html>http://www.library.yale.edu/CDC/public/policies/licensepolicy.html)
funnels all licenses for final approval through our signatory authority
(Ann Okerson), but this final approval is expedited by achieving review and
opening negotiations before the license is passed to Ann.
This workshop will provide Yale librarians with a background about licenses
themselves and the issues and aspects that affect our review. It will also
provide practical hints, documentation, review guidelines, fallback steps,
negotiation tips, and much more.
For those not able to join us this summer, the workshop will be repeated on
demand.
Where: CCL Electronic Classroom
When: Monday, July 16, 10 a.m. - 12 noon
