---------------------------------------------------------
-Do you feel uncomfortable or at a loss when in the presence of a person who is disabled?
-How would you communicate with someone who is deaf?
-How would you give directions to someone who is blind?
-What are "hidden disabilities?" Are they covered under the ADA?
---------------------------------------------------------
On April 28, 2004, a Disability Awareness Workshop is to be held in the SML Lecture Hall from 9:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. It is designed to suggest responses to questions much like those above, as well as address other issues surrounding the subject of people with disabilities. The film, "A Video Guide to (Dis)Ability Awareness", will be shown and will serve as a springboard for group discussion. In this film, a number of individuals share their experiences and describe in their own words the type of interactions with others that allow them to maintain a sense of dignity.

Everyone can benefit from an increased awareness and learn how best to indicate that you view a person as an individual rather than as a disability.

As the numbers of disabled people who actively engage in day-to-day life increases, so does the likelihood that they may be your library patron, your co-worker, or someone with whom you are actively involved in life outside of the library.

The workshop well qualifies for inclusion in your personal learning plan and as a step towards fulfillment of the goals and mission of the Yale University Library System.

Please come share your thoughts and experiences by registering today. To do so, click on the following link:
