Note: This position has a fixed duration of 3 years from the date of hire.
 
General Purpose:
Perform a range of GIS activities designed to assist patrons in the acquisition, processing, manipulation, analysis, and output of GIS data.  Assist in building the infrastructure to support these GIS services.
 
Essential Duties:
1.  Provide GIS consultation services by interviewing patrons to determine GIS data, software, instruction, and output needs.
2.  Provide one on one GIS instruction to patrons on the use and installation of GIS software.
3.  Digitize, catalog, archive, reproduce (in digital or print form), geo-reference, and disseminate maps from the Yale Map Collection.
4.  Update GIS web site, using software such as Dreamweaver, Toolbook Instructor, and Flash.  This includes the creation of task-based GIS tutorials.
5.  Help develop new services involving mobile GIS/field mapping and networked GIS by testing, demonstrating, and implementing hardware, software, and techniques both in-house and in the field.  These include, but are not limited to ArcSDE, ArcIMS, and ArcPad software as well as various GPS and mobile computing devices.
 
Experience and Training:
1.  Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography or related field and two years of directly relevant experience.
2.  Preferred:  Master’s degree in GIS, Geography, or related field. Experience providing GIS services in academic setting.
 
Skills and Abilities:
1.  Ability to use ArcGIS (8.3 or higher), ArcView (3.2 or higher), and web-authoring software.
2.  Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent problem-solving skills.
3.  Ability to support patron data, software, and analysis needs and to communicate and teach GIS skills and techniques.  Ability to discover and quickly learn newly developed GIS tools and techniques.
4.  Preferred: ArcSDE, ArcIMS, ArcPad, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Toolbook, Flash.  Experience using GPS technology and mobile computing devices.
