Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
37.5 hours per week

General Purpose:
Under the general supervision and review of the Public Services Manager, assist patrons and perform a wide variety of public service duties using knowledge of the university and of the departmental procedures.

Essential Duties:
1.  Provide information and assistance to patrons, staff, and other library units. Interview patrons to determine scope and depth of research. Determine and assigns library privileges to visitors. Assists researchers in preparing requests for materials in the collection. May suggest related materials. Answer questions about restrictions on access or use of the materials.
2.  Using various reference tools including, but not limited to, information systems, card catalogs, finding aids, and printed resources, locates requested manuscripts, archives, publication, dissertations, and microforms.
3.  Coordinate the transfer of materials to and from shelving areas, including the Library Shelving Facility.
4.  Monitor the use of collection materials to prevent theft or damage, and enforce the rules and regulations of the reading room.  Monitor off-site shelving areas. Secure the reading room, reference center, memorabilia room, multipurpose area and vaults at night.
5.  Handle imaging and reprographic requests. Identify, assemble, and determine the appropriate means to reproduce materials. When appropriate, reproduce material in the department or arrange for delivery of materials to vendors for reproduction. Perform tracking of materials at vendors when necessary.  Prepare invoices. Refile original material.
6.  Research, compose and complete correspondence answering reference questions. Complete and process interlibrary loan requests.
7.  Establish and maintain filing systems related to public services operations.  Create and maintain records used to compile public service statistics. Correct or recommend corrections in data files.
8.  Re-locate materials within the shelving areas and provide information to update and correct location database.
9.  Service requests that require information from confidential or restricted files.
10.  Provide work direction to public services support staff. Resolve work problems and answers procedural questions.
11.  Make recommendations and remove from collection, materials needing preservation, conservation, or repair.
12.  Monitor condition of public services equipment. Troubleshoot the equipment and provide preventative maintenance. Report supply and service requirements to supervisor.
13.  Perform a variety of public services and technical services functions.
 
Experience and training:
1.  Four years of elated work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
2.  Previous public services work experience must demonstrate accuracy, consistency, and dependability in maintaining records, filing, preparing forms, following directions, writing reports, and following procedures.
3.  Preferred:  Some college education.
 
Skills and abilities:
1.  Demonstrated ability in previous public services experience to interact and communicate tactfully and effectively with a wide variety of patrons and staff, to organize and prioritize work, to work under pressure, and to maintain concentration despite interruptions.
2.  Ability to climb ladders, push heavy book trucks, and lift materials on a daily basis.
3.  Demonstrated regular, skilled use of more complex machines. Must include personal computers.
4.  Minimum keyboarding skills (25-39 wpm).
5.  Flexibility and willingness to work in a team setting.
