E-mail Recommendations

We have recently completed the upgrade of Eudora on all staff workstations supported by WW&DCS. Eudora 6.2.1.2 is now our supported E-mail client. Please do not install other E-mail programs such as Thunderbird on staff workstations. Thunderbird is not supported by WW&DCS and security updates are deployed by us - installation of an unsupported email client is a potential security risk to the Library's workstation infrastructure.

If you are working from home (or away from the office), or need to view E-mail containing non-Roman characters, we recommend you use Yale WebMail (https://www.mail.yale.edu/). Also use WebMail when working on reference and circulation desks as well as workstations with multiple users. Pine is also an option for those who prefer a text-based client. Remember that you need to use Secure Shell to use Pine. Secure Shell is on all Library staff and public workstations and can be downloaded for home use from the ITS software site (http://www.yale.edu/software).

During the recent Eudora upgrades, the settings in Eudora were configured in order to provide the best security. Please do not alter the settings unless you are requested to do so by WW&DCS.

If you have any questions, please direct them to your WW&DCS contact.
