Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
How do I stop my menus from fading in  or scrolling.

  The effects menu is a new feature of Windows 2000. To modify these settings...

  1. Start --> Settings --> Control Panel.
  2. Double click display.
  3. Click the Effects tab.
  4. Uncheck Use transition effects for menus and tooltips.
  5. Click OK
Why can't I see all of my programs in  the menus?

  Personalized Menus are a way to trim down large menus by only displaying recently used files and  applications. To turn this option off...

  1. Start --> Settings --> Taskbar and Start Menu.
  2. Uncheck Use Personalized Menus.
  3. Click OK

Why don't I see sharing as an option in  the folders menu?

 Windows 2000 now explicitly requires you to specify that a machine will be sharing folders or printers.  This option is checked by default. To check if this option is installed...

  1. Right click My Network Places and select Properties.
  2. Right click Local Area Connection and select Properties.
  3. Check the box File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
  4. Click OK

When I try to map a drive why doesn't it show me the connect as box anymore?

The different user name option has replaced the connect as box. It now allows you to enter a user name and password in the same dialog box.

  1. Click on different user name and you will be prompted for a user name and password for that resource.
Where did the User Manager, Device Manager or Disk Manager go?

These programs are now parts of the Computer Management component.

  1. Start --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management.
Where do I find my computer name and workgroup information?

This information was moved to the System component.

  1. Start --> Settings --> Control Panel
  2. Double Click System
  3. Click the Network Identification Tab
  4. Click Properties.
Meeting Maker doesn't allow me to log in after the upgrade. How can I fix it?  Start Meeting Maker normally. In the "Welcome To Meeting Maker" dialog click the Server button. Change  the protocol from IP to TCP. Make sure your proper server is selected, click Select. Sign in normally.
The delimiter character in Host Explorer has changed. How can I get the old character back?  Reinstall the ALA Fonts. They are located in your Host Explorer directory. (i.e. C:\WANT\PROGRAM FILES\HOSTEXPLORER.NT).
