Policy on Use of the Library Server to Host the Sites of Outside Professional
Organizations In support of professional service and publishing
by Yale University Library staff, the Public Interface Public
Interfaces Committee (PIC) will authorize the use of public space
on the Library web server to host the web presence of organizations not
institutionally affiliated with Yale. Permission is subject to the following
conditions:
- a Yale Library
staff member(s) must manage the site while it is located on the Library
web server;
- only Yale Library
staff are permitted to access the server account;
- the organization
must be professionally-oriented and related to the position of the staff
member(s) who manages the site;
- a disclaimer
must appear on each page within the site*;
- each page within
the site must include the date of last revision and the name and e-mail
address of the contact person for that page.
Such a site will not be searchable from the Library search engine unless
specifically requested. The Web,
Workstation & Digital Consulting Services will provide the account
and create the appropriate directory structure, but any further support
is the responsibility of the site manager. The manager of the site should
be cognizant that the Library web server is a shared resource and be respectful
of size, appearance and traffic concerns.
This policy pertains
to public (/usr/web) directories, and not to personal (/usr/home) directories
allocated to staff with accounts on the server. Staff members are encouraged
to use these personal directories for publishing other documents relating
to professional activities as appropriate.
* Disclaimer: This
site does not necessarily reflect the views of the Yale University Library.
