When you wish to install a new printer on an NT PC. You must first consider where the printer is:
Option 1: The printer going to be attached directly to the PC (a local printer)?
Option 2: The printer a network printer attached to a WFWG PC?
Option 3: The printer a network printer attached to an NT PC?
Option 1: The printer will be directly attached to the PC (a local printer).
If you do not have an NT CD and CD drive in the PC where you wish to install the printer, you
must first connect to Banshee to obtain access to the NT 4.0 Software.
You can connect to Banshee using 'NT Explorer', found on the Start Menu. Start NT Explorer and
choose 'Tools' , 'Map Network Drive'. Connect to the following:
Path: \\banshee\passwd
Connect as: expertuser
You will then be prompted for a password. You can obtain the password to the expertuser login
to Banshee from your Systems Office contact. After you have connected to Banshee, you are ready
to begin installing the printer.
From the Start Menu, choose 'Settings', 'Printers'.
Double click on 'Add Printer'.
Since this printer will be directly attached to your PC, make sure 'My Computer' is checked, then click on Next.
Since this printer is directly attached to your PC, check 'LPT1' then click on Next.
Choose the Printer Vendor and the specific printer you have, then click on Next.
NT will give the printer a default name, this naming convention is fine. Choose if you wish this printer to be the default printer on your
PC or not. (Default means all print jobs will go to this printer unless you choose otherwise.)
Click Shared if you want you printer to be available as a shared device to others on the
network, choose Not Shared if you do not wish to share your printer.
Click Yes if you wish to print a test page from the printer (this will help you be sure you
selected the correct printer driver).
NT will tell it needs files from the CDROM and ask you where the CDROM is located. The NT CDROM is
located on Banshee (which you connected to previously). Choose Browse, then choose the drive
that represents the Network Connection to Banshee. (It should say 'passwd' on Banshee.)
Click to open the I38640 folder, then click on the I386 folder. You should see now see a file
listing of the files on Banshee.
Click on Open and you will be returned to the 'Files Needed' dialog box.
The dialog box should look something like this:

Click on OK to install the printer driver. The printer files will install, and you will
be returned to the 'Printers' group.
The printer is now installed on your NT workstation.
Remember to return to NT Explorer to disconnect the network connection to Banshee. (Tools, Disconnect Network Drive)
Option 2: The printer you wish to install is a network printer attached directly to a WFWG PC.
If the printer you wish to attach to your PC is a network printer (a printer attached to someone else's PC that you will print to over the network), and the PC that it is attached to is running Windows for Workgroups, you need to connect to
Banshee to get the appropriate printer drivers. You can then install the printer.
You can connect to Banshee using 'NT Explorer', found on the Start Menu. Start NT Explorer and choose
'Tools' , 'Map Network Drive'. Connect to the following:
Path: \\banshee\passwd
Connect as: expertuser

You will then be prompted for a password. You can obtain the password to the expertuser login to
Banshee from your Systems Office contact.
After you have connected to Banshee, you are ready to begin installing the printer.
Choose Settings, Printers from the Start Menu. Double Click on Add Printer. Choose the option 'Network Printer Server' as the printer is a network printer attached to a WFWG PC.
Choose the printer you wish to connect to:

Then click on OK.
This dialog box should appear:

This dialog box is telling you that the printer you wish to connect to is not on an NT machine (therefore no suitable printer drivers are installed on that PC for you to copy). Click OK to install the driver on your local machine.
Choose the Printer Vendor and the specific printer you have, then click on Next.
NT will give the printer a default name, this naming convention is fine. Choose if you wish this printer to be the default printer on your PC or not. (Default means all print jobs will go to this printer unless you choose otherwise.)
Click Shared if you want you printer to be available as a shared device to others on the network, choose Not Shared if you do not wish to share your printer.

Click on Open and you will be returned to the 'Files Needed' dialog box. The dialog box should look something like this:

Click on OK to install the printer driver. The printer files will install, and you will be asked if you want this printer to be the default printer for your PC. Choose Next and you will be told the printer has been successfully installed.
The printer is now installed on your NT workstation.
Remember to return to NT Explorer to disconnect the network connection to Banshee. (Tools, Disconnect Network Drive)
Option 3: The printer you wish to install is a network printer attached to an NT PC.
This option is the easiest. When you install a printer that is a network printer that is attached to an NT PC, your local NT PC will copy the printer drivers it needs from the network printer's PC.
Choose Settings, Printers from the Start Menu.
Choose Add Printer and Network Printer Server.
Choose the printer you wish to connect to. The next screen you will see will be the screen asking if
this should be your default printer. A 'Network Printer has been successfully installed' dialog box
will appear. Click on 'Finish' to return to the 'Printers' group. The printer has been installed.
