Configuring Host Explorer for Telnet access to the Orbis Voyager OPAC

NOTE: The Telnet interface supplies only basic bibliographic information and does not support many of the advanced features present in the Web interface. This Telnet interface to the new Orbis system does provide functionality equivalent to that present in the old Orbis system and includes several useful enhancements. Help pages are available (type ? while searching) to assist readers in using the new system.

From the File menu in Host Explorer select Open Session
Note: If the Open Session window is displayed when Host Explorer started, continue with the next step.

Select VT
Click New Profile

In the Host Explorer Session Info dialog box enter:

Profile Name: Orbis Voyager OPAC
Profile Type: VT
Host Name: orbis.yale.edu
Click OK

Click Edit Profile

Click the + next to Session - (first item in Settings Groups list)
Click Host
Change TCP Port from 23 to 4000
Click OK

Click Connect

Important: Do NOT enter port 4000 in the TCP Port field in the lower right corner of the Open Session dialog box. This setting is not automatically saved; future attempts to connect through the new profile will FAIL.

NOTES:
Default terminal type is fine (VT220)
Default character set displays selected diacritics (ISO Latin-1)
Default font is fine (TCP Terminal)
Recommended font size: 10x16

To save font info permanently, select Options / Edit Session Profile / Display / Fonts / Save Font and Window Info on Exit, and click OK.

To create a desktop or start menu shortcut for the new Orbis profile, select File / Save Session Profile / Create Shortcut. Click Save, choose where you would like the shortcut to appear, and click OK.

These instructions created and tested with HostEx 6.2, July 25, 2002
