Most staff & public workstations in the Library are members of a Library group in the Yale Windows 2000 Active Directory. This group is managed by Web, Workstation & Digital Consulting Services and allows us to manage and maintain Library computers and their software over the network. Exceptions are machines administered by staff in Beinecke, Divinity and Medical.
Some software updates are automatically "pushed" out to Library workstations using the Active Directory. Software updates pushed to workstations include updates to important configuration files for the Voyager client. In order for these upgrades to be installed correctly, a script must execute when the computer is started, this is called a startup event. In order for a startup event to be executed the computer must be shut down and restarted.
Library staff should shut their workstations off nightly. The exception being the night when the workstation is scheduled to automatically backup. A staff workstation should be scheduled to backup only one night a week.
If a workstation did not receive a pushed software update:
Software for Library machines can be found in PCAmigo.
