Over the next several months you may see new library workstations with Windows XP in your departments.
Unlike the move to Windows 2000 from Windows NT, we will not be immediately be replacing Windows 2000 in every
workstation but will be rolling out XP as new machines are deployed.
The user experience should not change, as most of Windows XP's changes are below the surface, but we have compiled
a list of the biggest differences. We have also compiled a running list of any known issues and their workarounds.
Known Bugs and Issues
Voyager Acquisitions Module: Close any active Acquisitions record windows before locking your computer.
Failing to do so will result in the Acquisitions Module crashing when you unlock your computer.
note: Endeavor has acknowledged this bug, however, they have not announced when it will be fixed.
New Features / Differences of Windows XP
Windows Desktop
The Windows System Tray may hide its unused icons
When you map a system drive, the drive letters are assigned Backwards (Z,Y,X)
The My Computer view has been updated, and there is a new "Tasks" bar that contains context sensitive menus
You may safely unplug a device without using the "stop device" button
Significantly faster startup time
Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer now has a built-in popup blocker
Active-X (plug-ins) are handled via a new menu
When you save a file from the Internet, there is a new save as dialogue box
Running an application directly from Internet Explorer brings a new warning message
