Good point, Dean. It would make a lot of sense for the private sector,
even the for-profit commercial private sector, to support open access.
Corporate donations to open access could be both a means of future cost
avoidance, and immediate excellent public relations. I bet the first
corporations to do this would have a good chance of some free publicity
too.
There are probably many avenues for financial support besides the obvious
ones of the research institutes and funders themselves. It's just a
matter of figuring out who and how to make it happen.
