Open Access in South Africa: current status, significance,...
Dear Colleagues,
I have recently completed a study titled "Open Access in South Africa:
current status, significance, and the role of National Information Policy
in the National System of Innovation". A self-archived version is
available at
www.jenniferdebeer.net/research/DeBeerJenniferThesisMPhil2004.pdf
Also mirrored on the OAI-compliant E-LIS repository:
http://eprints.rclis.org/archive/00003110/
Reasons to read the thesis:
1) The study is pioneering in that it is the first extensive study of the
status quo of OA in South Africa;
2) It makes an explicit policy recommendation within the South African
3) It also incorporates an argument around OA in the context of systems
of innovation; an explicit link which seems not to have been made to
date.
Comments, feedback, etc most welcome.
Kind regards, Jennifer
