Library Relations Manager
Duke University Press seeks Library Relations Manager to research, plan,
and develop business model for consortial and institutional subscriptions
to the electronic package of Duke Journals, as well as individual library
subscriptions. The Library Relations Manager will be charged with the
responsibility to build strategic alliances between Duke University Press
and the library community. The individual in this position will also
market and sell our online journals collection to library consortia,
develop licensing agreements from initial customer contact through to
signature, and ensure online access to Duke's journals by library
subscribers. The Library Relations Manager will represent Duke University
Press at several key library conferences (3-4) throughout the year. The
successful candidate will have solid experience indicative of the ability
to work independently, analytically, conceptually. The successful
applicant will be able to demonstrate strong communication skills and the
ability to inspire trust among and within competing interest groups.

Job Description:
WORK PERFORMED
o Research, plan, and develop pricing model for individual institutions
and consortia
o Research, plan, and develop site license agreement for individual
institutions and consortia
o Research new and developing library consortia;
o Plan, develop and implement marketing strategies in one or more
specialty areas to maximize awareness of and desirability for Duke
online package
o Determine appropriate meetings for outreach to libraries and
consortia; coordinate planning of all appropriate marketing materials
for display; seek opportunities to participate in panels to enhance
visibility of the Press
o Determine appropriate advertising campaigns; coordinate the planning
and reservation of advertising space in a variety of mediums such as
newspapers, meeting programs, magazines and scholarly periodicals.
o Design and implement direct mail programs; research, compile and/or
purchase specialized mailing lists to reach targeted audience.
o Coordinate the design and development of pamphlets, letters, flyers,
posters and related publicity items for distribution through direct
mail; work with production staff to plan copy, layout and design;
maintain liaison with printers and mail houses to ensure timely
preparation of various publicity materials.
o Negotiate license agreements (access terms and conditions) and
pricing arrangements with libraries and consortia
o Direct invoicing for all prospective sales
o Create a database and track all prospective subscribing institutions
and consortia
o Research, monitor, and make recommendations for online hosting options
o Plan and develop marketing research strategies to evaluate the
effectiveness of various marketing plans; prepare reports and
analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate
recommendations and conclusions.
o Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations;
monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills
generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
EXPERIENCE
Work requires minimum five years direct experience with libraries; two
years experience in marketing, advertising, media, promotions, graphic
arts, public relations, books/journals sales or publishing, or other
related background to acquire skills necessary to plan, develop and
implement marketing strategies OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
