RE: BMC in LJ Academic NewsWire
1. http://www.knowledgespeak.com/ has published the following a
couple of days ago:
Clarification - 05 May 2006
This is with reference to the news alert titled "Editors voice
concern over BioMed Central publishing process" covered in the
News Section of Knowledgespeak (dated 3rd May 2006). BioMed
Central has clarified that under a new agreement which covers
more than half of its independent titles, journal editors do
receive payment, in the form of a share of the revenue from
article processing charges for their journal.
2. Hindawi publishes 30+ open access journals, some of them are
converts from toll access. We do pay our OA journals
editors-in-chief an editorial fee, just like we do for the toll
access journals.

Interesting that BMC editors are not paid; as far as I am aware,
most traditional publishers (both commercial and nonprofit) do
pay their journaleditors. I'm not sure whether unpaid editors
are the norm in OA journals - can anyone enlighten me?
