Wiley Announces the Launch of Statistical Analysis and Data Mining
New journal to debut in early 2007
Hoboken, N.J., September 12, 2006 - Global publisher John Wiley &
Sons, Inc. today announced the launch of Statistical Analysis and
Data Mining, a new international journal providing an
interdisciplinary focus on data analysis. The journal will debut
in early 2007 and will publish six times per year in print and
online via Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com),
Wiley's online publishing platform.
Designed to encourage collaborations across the diverse
disciplines of computer science, engineering, and statistics,
Statistical Analysis and Data Mining will communicate novel data
mining and statistical techniques to both novices and experts
involved in the analysis of data from practical problems.
"Statistical Analysis and Data Mining fills a key need in
bringing together these important areas of knowledge discovery,"
said Jon Glover, Associate Publisher, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
"Data miners and statisticians have come to recognize the
interdependence of their two modes of investigation, given the
enormity and complexity of the data generated in so much of
today's research. We view the launch of this journal as the
acknowledgment of an important 'symbiotic' relationship."
Each issue will feature articles that address such key issues as
solving data analysis problems associated with massive complex
datasets; providing applications and solutions that are focused
on solving real problems; describing innovative data mining
algorithms or novel statistical approaches; comparing and
contrasting techniques to solve a problem; and conducting an
objective evaluation of the analyses and the solutions.
Statistical Analysis and Data Mining is led by Editors-in-Chief
Arnold Goodman, Center for Statistical Consulting, University of
California Irvine; Chandrika Kamath, Center for Applied
Scientific Computing, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory; and
Vipin Kumar, Department of Computer Science and Engineering,
University of Minnesota.
Statistical Analysis and Data Mining adopts Wiley's new business
model for newly launched journals, in which complimentary online
access is available to institutions throughout 2007 and 2008.
