American College of Rheumatology and Wiley to Launch The
Rheumatologist First issue of new controlled-circulation
newsmagazine to publish in November 2006
Hoboken, N.J., October 12, 2006 - Global publisher John Wiley &
Sons, Inc., and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) today
announced an agreement to launch The Rheumatologist, a new
controlled-circulation newsmagazine that will provide breaking
news and information to rheumatology and rheumatologist health
professionals in a unique and visually compelling format. The
first issue of The Rheumatologist will be published in November
2006 to coincide with the 70th annual meeting of the ACR and the
41st annual meeting of the Association of Rheumatology Health
Professionals. The scientific meeting will be held November
10-15, 2006 in Washington, D.C.
"Wiley has a longstanding relationship with the ACR to publish
their two peer-reviewed journals, Arthritis & Rheumatism and
Arthritis Care & Research," said Vickie Thaw, Vice President and
Publisher for Medical Science Journals, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
"This new agreement is an exciting opportunity for us to enhance
our existing partnership with the ACR by creating an entirely new
publication through which we both can further serve the
rheumatology community."
David Pisetsky, M.D., PhD. will be the Physician Editor for the
publication. He is Professor of Medicine and Immunology at Duke
University Medical Center and the former editor of Arthritis &
Rheumatism. Dr. Pisetsky has served the field for 28 years and is
widely considered to be one of the most prominent rheumatologists
in the country. He will be supported by an editorial board
comprising leading rheumatologists and rheumatology health
professionals in areas of practice, research, and academia.
After the inaugural issue in November 2006, The Rheumatologist
will publish monthly beginning in January 2007. Each issue will
report on general research topics and clinical trends in
rheumatology, and will include: keys to interpreting research for
clinical practitioners; general medicine topics of relevance to
rheumatologists; people-focused content (e.g. profiles of key
leaders in the field, roundtable discussions about critical
topics, and one-on-one interviews with newsmakers); public policy
and legislative trends; career development and practice
management issues; and college news and events. The
Rheumatologist will be distributed for free to all ACR members as
part of their membership, and will also be sent to other select
audiences.
"I am very honored and excited to be the first Physician Editor
of The Rheumatologist," said Dr. Pisetsky. "This publication will
represent a very important venue of communication for members of
the American College of Rheumatology and the Association of
Rheumatology Health Professionals. As a newsmagazine, The
Rheumatologist will provide accessible, engaging and
authoritative articles on a broad range of topics relevant to
rheumatology practice. Since The Rheumatologist is a publication
of the American College of Rheumatology, it will be a unique
source of information and ideas."
