FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
=========================================================================
12th October 2006, Cambridge, England, UK & New York, USA
Journal of the Society for American Music, published by Cambridge
University Press, in association with the Society for American
Music
Cambridge University Press is delighted to announce that from
2007 we will publish the official journal of the Society for
American Music. Cambridge already has a strong track record in
music journals publishing, offering nine academic journals
ranging from the Cambridge Opera Journal, Early Music History and
Popular Music. Formerly called American Music, the Society's new
official scholarly journal will be called the Journal of the
Society for American Music. Members of the Society will receive
the new journal as part of their annual subscription, beginning
in 2007 with Volume One. Each volume will comprise four issues.
The mission of the Society for American Music is to stimulate the
appreciation, performance, creation and study of American music
in all its diversity, and the full range of activities and
institutions associated with that music. "America" is understood
to embrace North America, including Central America and the
Caribbean, and aspects of its cultures everywhere in the world.
The Journal of the Society for American Music will deal with all
aspects of music in the Americas and also American music across
all appropriate genres, history and styles. The journal will
examine important areas surrounding music such as race,
ethnicity, gender, media, sexuality and cultural hierarchy.
Michael Broyles, President of the Society said, "With a new
publisher, we anticipate increased flexibility in the size and
design of the journal, a higher international profile, and
enhanced use of digital technology. In essence we believe this
move will allow us to produce a journal that will even better
serve the scholarly community and the field of American music."
Geoff Nuttall, Editorial Director of Cambridge Journals said,
"The Press?s commitment to music publishing and the community
more widely, as well as our strengths as a journals publisher
with a state-of-the-art online platform should lead to a
flourishing relationship with the Society and an exciting new
journal for the field."
