Oxford Journals partners with the International Council for the
Exploration of the Sea to publish leading marine science title
Oxford Journals has announced that it is to publish The ICES
Journal of Marine Science, on behalf of the International Council
for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).
The ICES Journal of Marine Science is the official publication of
the ICES, an intergovernmental organization coordinating marine
research in the North Atlantic. The Journal publishes articles,
short communications, and critical reviews that contribute to the
scientific understanding of marine systems and the impact of
human activities, to advise governments and regulatory bodies on
managing the ocean. It serves as a foundation for scientific
advice across the broad spectrum of management and conservation
issues related to the marine environment.
Andrew I.L. Payne, Editor-in-Chief, believes that the new
partnership with Oxford Journals will help the Journal to build
on an already impressive impact factor and burgeoning submission
rates, providing a high quality medium for ICES member country
scientists, as well as for good marine scientists worldwide.
"We believe that a partnership with a not-for-profit organization
that is a department of a university brings with it aims and
values that are closely aligned with those of ICES," he
commented. "These aims and values include fair pricing, a
continuing emphasis on quality in all aspects of publication, and
maximizing dissemination to those who need the Journal."
The Journal will be published by Oxford Journals from January
2007, with six issues per year. It will offer optional open
access under the Oxford Open initiative. Oxford Journals will
also be providing access to the complete digital archive of all
back issues, dating back to 1903.

Notes for Editors
International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES)
<http://www.ices.dk/indexfla.asp> coordinates and promotes marine
research in the North Atlantic and adjacent seas such as the
Baltic Sea and North Sea. ICES acts as a meeting point for a
community of more than 1600 marine scientists from 20 countries
around the North Atlantic. Working through ICES, they gather
information about the marine ecosystem. Besides filling gaps in
existing knowledge, this information is developed into unbiased,
non-political advice. The advice is used, in turn, by the 20
member countries, which fund and support ICES, to help them
manage the North Atlantic Ocean and adjacent seas. Read more
