The Condor Migrates to UC Press
The Condor Migrates to University of California Press in 2008
University of California Press Journals + Digital Publishing is
proud to announce that the Cooper Ornithological Society, one of
the oldest and most important ornithological societies in the
world, has chosen UC Press as its new publishing partner for The
Condor. Dedicated to the study and conservation of birds, the
Cooper Ornithological Society has had a longstanding commitment
to the development of avian scholarship in the service of the
ornithological community. UC Press is proud to be a part of this
mission and to help the Society further its goals in the
conservation of birds and their habitats.
The Press is keen to also be working collaboratively with BioOne
to assure broad access for libraries to the online version of The
Condor. The journal will continue to be available via BioOne's
BioOne.1 collection, a full-text online package of essential
biological science research journals. The Condor will also be
made available for purchase as a standalone journal through UC
Press and its online hosting platform, Caliber. Both print +
electronic and electronic-only packages will be available for
institutions from UC Press.
Published continuously since 1899, The Condor has contained
original research reports and review articles pertaining to the
biology of wild species of birds. Over time the journal has
become one of the most respected and distinguished in its field,
frequently publishing seminal articles in avian biology studies.
The journal has consistently maintained its position as one of
the top-ranked ornithology journals in the ISI impact factor
rankings. Beginning with Volume 110, Issue 1 in February 2008,
The Condor will be available from UC Press both online and in
print.
"The Cooper Ornithological Society is extremely pleased to work
with University of California Press, while retaining partnership
with BioOne, to increase the reach of The Condor and to advance
electronic publishing of the journal. We expect this new
partnership and a new editorial process to take one of the
premier ornithological journals of the world to a whole new
level." Thomas E. Martin, President, Cooper Ornithological
Society
"The Condor has been with BioOne since the aggregation's
inception in 2001. By partnering with both University of
California Press and BioOne, The Condor is fulfilling its mission
to sustainably maximize distribution for the benefit of the
entire scholarly community." Susan Skomal Executive Director and
Chief Operating Officer, BioOne
"UC Press is proud to be working with both the Cooper
Ornithological Society and BioOne to enable a broad range of
access to The Condor" says Rebecca Simon, Director, University of
California Press Journals + Digital Publishing. "Such
collaborations between non-profit, mission-driven organizations
help assure not only affordable access for libraries but
sustainable models for the scholarly publishing community."
