SERIALS ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN
The Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State University - San
Marcos is seeking qualified applicants for the position of
Serials Acquisitions Librarian. This position reports to the Head
of Acquisitions and is responsible for supervision and management
of the Serials Acquisitions Unit and the Bindery Preparation
Unit, including a staff of six library assistants and related
student staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, supervise, monitor and evaluate the
overall operation of Serials Acquisitions and Bindery
Preparation; coordinate the acquisition of new databases, e-book
packages and large one-time purchases; coordinate renewal of
consortium subscriptions; review serial licenses; update or
supervise the updating of the library's electronic and print
holding; monitor, investigate and correct serial encumbrances and
expenditures in integrated library system in coordination with
the Library Accountant; coordinate the annual Serials Review;
answer questions from staff and library patrons regarding
databases, electronic and print serials and bindery; coordinate
activities involving receipt and processing of serials gifts;
prepare a variety of reports such as serials cost estimates and
annual reports; make bindery decisions on new journal titles;
staff reference desk approximately two hours per week (optional);
engage in professional activities in accordance with Texas State
University's standards for promotion for professional librarians.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's degree from an ALA accredited
library program; strong interpersonal and oral communication
skills; supervisory experience including the ability to motivate
staff and promote a team environment; analytical, problem solving
and decision-making skills; ability to work under pressure and
handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously; knowledge
of standard word processing and spreadsheet applications;
familiarity with an integrated library system; Preferred:
Familiarity with license negotiations; knowledge of serials
market/industry and pricing models/practices; knowledge of
collection development theory and trends; knowledge of cataloging
rules and technical services processes; knowledge of acquisitions
business practices, fund accounting and library budgeting; and
awareness of library preservation fundamentals.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: $39,960 - $63,707 depending on assigned
rank based on qualifications and experience. Available ranks
include Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, and Librarian.
Advancement in rank is available through the Librarian Career
Ladder. Benefits include monthly contribution to health
insurance/benefits package and retirement program after initial
ninety days of employment. No state or local income tax.

Marcos is contingent upon the outcome of a criminal history
background check. Texas State's 29,125 students choose from 109
bachelor's, 88 master's and eight doctoral degree programs
offered by the following colleges: Applied Arts, McCoy College of
Business Administration, Education, Fine Arts and Communication,
Health Professions, Liberal Arts, Science, University College and
the Graduate College. Since 2005, Texas State has also offered
bachelor's and graduate-level courses in Round Rock, Texas, at
our Round Rock Higher Education Center (RRHEC) campus, located
