Knowledge is for all - comment on joint IFLA / IPC Statement

The IFLA/IPC Joint Statement on Enhancing the Debate about Open 
Access makes the assumption that the goal of open access is 
access for all researchers around the globe.

The goal of the open access movement is much broader than this. 
Open access is not only for all researchers, but also for 
students, educators, the taxpayers who fund much of academic 
research, medical and other professionals, and those in the 
developing world who might like to be academics and researchers, 
but lack the means - including access to the scholarly research 
literature.  In other words, all of us.
