Perhaps it's a piece of out-moded netiquette, but surely unless
people are more outraged by the apology than the five copies in
their in-box it does no harm!

Just curious . . . why do people still say "Apologies for
cross-posting"??
There are so many lists these days, and there is so much
interdisciplinarity, that it's probably rare that there is only
one list that a posting could be sent to.
I stopped apologizing for cross-posting at least ten years ago
and no one has complained to me directly.
