UCITA: Summary Information
Provided by Info World Electric, this site provides some background and resources on UCITA (Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act). UCITA is proposed legislation intended to provide a uniform contractual framework for the licensing of information in all fifty states. The draft law is a replacement of Article 2B of the Uniform Commercial Code or UCC, (see next item below) and has been sent to state legislatures for possible enactment. The UCC, which governs business contracts, is drafted jointly by the American Law Institute (ALI) and the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) and is enacted by each state legislature individually. Out of concern that consumer interests have not been sufficiently considered in the proposed UCITA legislation, the ALI has not approved it. Thus, UCITA is sponsored only by the NCCUSL, not by both groups.
