Orbis Cataloging Manual
POLICY
All photocopies of a work, regardless of
reproduction/issuing date or physical format must share the same
bibliographic record. Do not create separate bibliographic records when
variations occur between or among copies. Photocopies may be added to
the bibliographic record for the original work reproduced.
GUIDELINES:
Accept the bibliographic information given in field 533 for all manifestations of a photocopied work. Do not modify dates of manufacture/distribution, type of pagination or foliation, etc. for any added photocopy
In situations where physical form has changed significantly (i.e. a paged 1 volume work has been photocopied as a two volume work) give the details of the physical change in the Copy Holdings Note.
In situations involving variations in size, only the call number will reflect oversize. Differences in size will not be given in the Copy Holdings statement NOTES area
In situations involving variations of agencies responsible for the manufacture/distribution and the locations of such agencies, give the details of such variations in the Copy Holdings statement NOTES area
When a photocopy is to be added to the bibliographic record for the original work DO NOT create field 533 on the bibliographic record. Give the information in the Copy Holdings statement NOTES area.
NOTE: When deriving a record from RLIN for a photocopy for the first copy, be sure to create field 533 based upon the information given in the copy being cataloged
