Orbis Cataloging Manual

FIXED FIELDS FOR PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 007 FIELD

POLICY

The use of the MARC 007 Fixed Field for Orbis bibliographic records is required for all applicable General Material Designators (GMDs). Whenever one of the following GMD subfields is used in the Variable Field 245, the Fixed Field 007 is to be generated.

The following GMDs are supported in Orbis:

DEFINITION:

The Fixed Field 007 is a convention designed to support specific data elements for most non-print materials. Its general usage is to provide encoding data for microform reproductions, especially negative and master negative copies.

PROCEDURE:

ADDING/CREATING 007 FIELD

  1. The 007 command is given as part of variable field entry. It is generally entered as the last element of the bibliographic record, although in data entry it may be placed before any variable field or between variable fields.

    Type: 007[GMD] i.e.,

    for a microform: 007h

    for a sound recording: 007s

  2. Press ENTER

The 007 Field will now display as part of the Fixed Field data and is ready for editing.

DELETING THE 007 FIELD

  1. Tab the cursor to the GMD code

  2. Press the ERASE EOF key

  3. Press ENTER

The 007 field is automatically deleted from the record.

NOTE: The GMD code cannot be altered or changed once a record has been created. You must first delete the 007 Field and then create/add the 007 Field.
