Orbis Cataloging Manual
REPRODUCTIONS OF WORKS IN DIFFERENT PHYSICAL FORMATS
(MULTIPLE VERSIONS)
POLICY
The basic ORBIS record structure of one
bibliographic record with appended copy holdings statements is to be
observed when processing different physical manifestations of the same
bibliographic work. This is a general policy which is applied to
photocopies, microforms, etc. and which relies upon principles of
clarity and usage of the bibliographic record. These principles must
always be considered and allow, in some instances, the cataloger to
create separate bibliographic records for the same bibliographic entity
when it is reproduced in different physical mediums.
PRINCIPLES:
In general, other manifestations or reproductions are to be added to the bibliographic record for the original.
There must be no ambiguity in the bibliographic and copy holdings record(s) of the nature of the works represented.
