GENERAL COMMANDS USED FOR:
BIBL Returns to tagged bibliographic display
SAME Required if a record is to be updated or modified. Prevents duplicate record;system validation of fields
LONG Redisplays record in catalog format. Will show spaces which system may create when a field is updated
MORE Creates additional screen(s)
HLDG (also HOLD) Displays copy holdings record
VHLD [space]-[space][no] Creates or displays volume holdings record
CATL Displays catalog card request form for shelf list
NEW [format letter] Displays work screen for entering a new record
DONE Enters record into database after record creation or update
DERI Derives a record from the same file OR required to transfer a record from LTLC to LTYL
AOVL Replaces an authority record in LTYL with one from LTLC
BOVL Replaces a bibliographic record in LTYL with one from LTLC
SEARCHING COMMANDS USED FOR:
(MERGED HEADINGS)
JX Display of all headings which match the search term (author, title, subject, series, authority)
HQ Display of all series
JST Display of locally defined subject headings
CONVENTIONS USED FOR:
FIELD 927 Sends record to tape for upload to RLIN
FIELD 590 Records copy specific information for display to public. Must always begin with primary Orbis location code
FIELD 940 Permits keyword search by location in OPAC; required whenever a new location is added to a copy holdings record or whenever a location changes
FIELD 949 Records processing information (transfers/call number changes)
PROVISIONAL! Note placed in copy holdings record immediately after RLIN record production for monographs only
[field/]:*: Inserts data at end of a field
sso Code placed in copy holdings statement NOTES for serial standing order
EDITING SPACES
Use the following command on the IBM Orbis terminal which prevents unwanted spaces from appearing. Once issued, the command remains in effect until the terminal is turned off or is disconnected from the Orbis computer.
PROCEDURE:
On the command line, enter the following command with NO SPACES between characters. Do NOT press RETURN.
The terminal will give NO RESPONSE, but your instruction has in fact been executed. Proceed with your Orbis work.

Lower case letter "n"
Capital letter "A"
Double quotation mark
"Escape" key (upper left corner of keyboard).
Press this key once, and release. Do not hold down while typing the subsequent characters.
Accidental and potentially dangerous miskeying of the command can be avoided by programming a function key to enter the four-character sequence.
