Configuring WINS
WINS (Windows Internet Name Service) enhances the ability of Windows to manage machine names. When starting your computer with WINS configured, your machine name and IP address are registered with the WINS server. When you need to use a resource shared on the network, the name query request is sent directly to the WINS server instead of broadcasting it on the LAN. Devices on some areas of the network cannot be located using network broadcasts. An example of this is when using shared resources in the CISNT domain.
Close all applications. Go to the Start button, Settings, Control Panel, Network. You are now in the Network Control Panel as shown below.
Select the Protocols tab. Click the TCP/IP Protocol and select Properties.
You are now in the TCP/IP Properties. Click on the WINS Address tab.
Now you can change the WINS addresses. Enter 130.132.21.71 for the Primary
WINS Server and
130.132.21.58 for the Secondary WINS Server. Then click OK.
The settings take effect after you restart the computer..
