Pass Through Printing for Circulation Departments

Last Updated: January 4, 2000

Description of the Change:

Circulation receipt printers have been supported as 7171 terminal printers that interact with NOTIS circulation functions via mainframe resources. With pass through printing, circulation receipt printers now interact with NOTIS circulation functions via workstation and network resources. This solution affects staff circulation procedures in four ways: 1) QuickKeys that reassign current receipt printer in the user profile are no longer used, 2) Printing using F9 (Example: Item Condition/Page Reports), 3) Printing using F10 (Example: Detailed Cash Drawer Printout), and 4) Printing Using F12 (Example: Patron HAS Lists).

QuickKeys That Reassign Current Receipt Printer*

After the pass through printing solution is implemented, QuickKeys (LTYL – LCRC) that reassign the current receipt printer in a circulation staff profile are no longer necessary. You will print to the receipt printer that is attached to that workstation because the receipt printer attached to the workstation(s) is assigned to the user profile as a generic receipt printer no matter where you are logged in.

*Note: This QuickKey is used primarily by CCL Circulation Staff

Printing Using F9:

After the pass through printing solution is implemented, you will print reports, such as the Item Condition/Page Reports, using the F9 button on the Host Explorer TOOLBAR rather than the F9 key on your computer keyboard. This will allow your system to switch from the circulation receipt printer to the default printer attached to your computer.

Note: If you do not use the TOOLBAR F9 button, you will discover that the report, such as the Item Condition/Page Report, will print out on the circulation receipt printer. The solution is to click the F9 Button on the Toolbar for a second printing but this time it will print to the default printer for your workstation.

Printing Using F10:

After the pass through printing solution is implemented, you will print reports, such as the Cash Drawer Detail Report, using the F10 button on the Host Explorer TOOLBAR rather than the F10 key on your computer keyboard. This will allow your system to switch from the circulation receipt printer to the default printer attached to your computer.

Note: If you do not use the TOOLBAR F10 button, you will discover that the report, such as Cash Drawer Detail Report, will print out on the circulation receipt printer. The solution is to click the F10 Button on the Toolbar for a second printing, but this time it will print to the default printer for your workstation.

Printing Using F12:

After the pass through printing solution is implemented, you will print reports, such as the Patron HAS Lists, using the F12 button on the Host Explorer TOOLBAR rather than the F12 key on your computer keyboard. This will allow your system to switch from the circulation receipt printer to the default printer attached to your computer.

Note: If you do not use the TOOLBAR F12 button, you will discover that the report, such as the Patron HAS List, will print out on the circulation receipt printer. The solution is to click the F12 Button on the Toolbar for a second printing but this time it will print to the default printer for your workstation.
